PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION
This position is seen as being a key player in both the corrective and preventative maintenance processes for all
our electrical, electronics, instrumentations, and controls across all factories. The incumbent must be able to
structure preventative maintenance activities to ensure the optimum life cycle costing for the assets under their
care as well as develop upgrade plans, capital expenditure requirements, spares keeping and inventory policies.
The incumbent would also be expected to trouble shoot and fault find during breakdowns and offer solutions with
respect to the electrical, electronics, instrumentation, and controls across all factories. A degree of programming
and fault finding may be required from time to time but an ability to interact with the different systems we have
within the operations is a must.

JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Planning & Productivity
− Reduce downtime related to electrical, electronics, instruments, and controls.
− Develop upgrade and corrective paths where necessary.
− Assist production processes by optimising the assets at hand and utilising them to their maximum. This
would entail loop tuning, trend analysis, drive optimization and other relevant areas where continuous
improvement can be implemented.
− Ensure that maintenance on electrical, electronics, instruments and controls are performed on a continuous
basis.
− Responsible for shutdown work and electrical & instrumentation maintenance on machines.
− Attend to breakdowns on machines as soon as possible.
− Develop and execute preventative maintenance schedules on instrumentation & controls equipment.
− Install, maintain, and repair electrical control, wiring, and instrumentation systems.
− Prevent breakdown of systems by routinely inspecting and replacing old wiring and insulated cables,
cleaning circuits and panels etc
− Troubleshoot instrumentation & control issues using the appropriate testing devices and make timely repairs.
− Perform effective troubleshooting to identify hazards or malfunctions and repair or substitute instrumentation
and other electrical components.
− Ensure adequate inventory of necessary supplies and parts.
− To identify, initiate and implement projects within the control and instrumentation sphere.
− To project manage any upgrades or new installations.

Quality
− To ensure that all systems are always in good working order to prevent quality defects.
− To ensure that workmanship is of a high calibre preventing rework and unnecessary downtime.

Health & Safety
− All electrical installation work that is undertaken must meet accepted electrical standards and to always
comply with the OHS Act.
− Maintain and update legislated registers as required by law i.e., Portable Electrical Equipment, Earth Leakages etc.
− Test electrical systems and components to ensure proper functioning.
− Calibrate equipment to provided specifications.
− Complete required documentation of repairs and service information as well as job cards.

Safety and Risk Management
− Identification and reporting of potential risks or issues concerning machines, equipment or personnel that
could cause financial or operational damage.
− Responsible for the integrity of all electrical & instrumentation safety devices used on all machines and
equipment.
− Responsible for good housekeeping and safe working environment in the electrical workshop.
Adhoc
− Assisting with ad hoc tasks and enquiries when required

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• 1 to 2 years’ experience in a maintenance function within a process industry with experience in the paper
industry preferred.
• Minimum: N3 and Electrical Trade Test (Electrician) or Instrument trade test (Instr. mechanician)
• Ideal: N6 and Diploma in Electrical Process Instrumentation

REQUIREMENTS – EXPERIENCE
• Have knowledge of Siemens control systems both S5 and S7 and TIA.
• Knowledge of PLC’s and DCS systems is essential
• Knowledge of the paper industry and associated instrumentation would be extremely beneficial.
• Knowledge of axis controllers and servo motors would be preferred.
• Analyzing information and using logic to address work related issues and problems.
• Conversant with relative legislation regarding Health and Safety requirements.
• Must be able to trouble shoot through process logic using primarily Siemen’s software.
• Good knowledge of environmental requirements.
• Capacity to work alone as well as work in a team.
• Computer literacy: MS Office essential; MS Project beneficial. Conversant with CMMS systems with
HIPPO exposure a bonus
• Ability to work under pressure and to maintain required standards and adhere to SOS (SEE IT, OWN IT,
SOLVE IT protocol).
• Will be expected to assist with breakdowns and call outs after hours when required.
• Standby once a month (dependable on workforce).
• The ability to perform a variety of tasks simultaneously.
