Position: Fashion Designer

Requirements:
Matric
• A basic educational foundation is necessary. Courses in art, design, and sewing can be particularly beneficial.
Bachelor’s degree
• Most fashion designers have a bachelor’s degree in fashion design or a related field. This provides comprehensive training in various aspects of fashion, including design principles, textiles, pattern making, and fashion history.
• Reputable fashion schools and universities offer specialized programs in fashion design. Examples include the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), Parsons School of Design, and Central Saint Martins.

Creativity and Artistic Skills:
• Strong sense of aesthetics and an eye for colour, texture, and form.
• Ability to sketch designs and conceptualize ideas.
Technical Skills:
• Proficiency in sewing, pattern making, and draping.
• Knowledge of garment construction and textiles.
Attention to Detail:
• Precision in creating and modifying patterns and designs.
• Keen attention to trends and customer preferences.

Business Acumen:
• Understanding of marketing, sales, and retail principles.
• Ability to manage a fashion business, including budgeting and sourcing materials.

Communication and Collaboration:
• Effective communication skills for working with clients, suppliers, and team members.

Practical Experience:
Internships and Experience:
• Internships with established fashion houses or designers provide hands-on experience and industry connections.
• Part-time jobs or freelance work in fashion-related fields can also be valuable.
