Sparrow Society seeks to employ a registered social worker on a 1-year contract to assist in ensuring that the program runs efficiently and that the women receive the necessary support and care.

Social Worker Job Description:

Time: two days per week or 16 hours. On a 1 year (12 month) contract.

Salary scale: R10k-R13k per month

Start Date: Immediate

Access to a vehicle for all visits, petrol, and other travel incidentals are covered.

Scope of Work:
Co-design the first phase of psycho-social care and engagements with the broader Sparrow Society team and network design, building a dignifying process of identifying the right women for the program.
Design and rollout activities for the women and families at risk within the program.
Engage with all the women in our network, this includes the trainers for the safehouse programs.
Identify women within the first group setting who would be an ideal fit for the pad-making project.
Help identify and understand the psychosocial and socioeconomic needs of the women in the larger SewBoss network who are seeking assistance.
Liaise and provide feedback from the social workers at the safehouses on the rollout of the Power Pad project, keeping up to date with what is working, what isn’t working, and working with the project lead to co-design the most effective way forward.
Where necessary arrange for interventions in family situations, with a strong referral system and process in place.
Keep individual files for each client, updated regularly on the shared Google Drive.

Requirements:
Agility, flexibility, and willingness to work in a fast-moving, new program environment.
Develop new systems in a start-up environment.
Ability to work under pressure
Excellent communication and administrative skills.
High level of proficiency in the use of Google Drive.
Qualified and registered social worker
Professing Christian
Previous experience with women at risk and especially those in trauma scenarios, some working knowledge of safe house structures.
A valid driver’s license and right to work in South Africa are essential.
