REQUIREMENTS
National Diploma or Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Certificate in Occupational Health Nursing
Registration with the South African Council of Nursing
Exposure and completion of courses in spirometry, audiometry, and eye exams would be advantageous.
Minimum of 5 years of relevant nursing experience, of which 3 years must be as Occupational Health Nurse Practitioner (OHNP)
Ability to assume responsibility and accountability.
Good analytical skills
High capacity to act in emergency situations.
Good decision-making skills.
Self motivation
Computer skills with competence in MS Office: Word, Excel and Outlook
Job description and responsibilities
Occupational health
Physical Fitness Exam: Pre-Employment / Admission, Pre-Placement, Periodic, Transfer Medical Exam
Exit / termination medical examinations to establish the health status of the employee that may have been influenced by exposure to their work environment.
Medical surveillance programs, including biological surveillance and hearing conservation programs.
Evaluation, investigation, treatment and follow-up of IOD (injury in service)
Return-to-work evaluations to establish whether the employee is medically fit to resume duty after IOD
Primary health care and emergency care.
Management of minor ailments and injuries, family planning, health examinations, health campaigns and health education in general that includes TB, HIV / AIDS, chronic diseases.
Provide pre and post HIV test counseling.
Chronic disease management
Emergency calls, emergency management and referral.
Electronic medical record and record keeping
Statistics
Sick Leave Administration
Medication control
Injury on duty (IOD)
Using drugs, supplies and other equipment in the most cost-effective and careful way without changing the high level of medical care provided.
