The National School of the Arts seeks an Accounting Assistant to join the finance team of this vibrant high school in Braamfontein, Johannesburg.
The primary function of the Accounting Assistant is to support the Finance Officer in maintaining the overall accounting system to ensure complete and accurate records.

Duties will include:
· Opening school and hostel fee accounts
· Billing of annual school and hostel fees
· Allocating fee payments against parents’ school and hostel fee accounts
· Allocating other receipts to appropriate accounts
· Following up timeously with parents on outstanding school and hostel fees
· Providing arrear account information to the internal debt collector.
· Resolving parents’ school and hostel fee account queries diplomatically
· Reconciling parents’ school and hostel fee accounts
· Processing journals to parents’ school and hostel fee accounts for discounts and exemptions
· Bank reconciliations
· Emailing school and hostel fee statements to parents when requested
· Summarising school and hostel fee accounts for financial reporting purposes
· Creating new supplier accounts
· Processing supplier invoices in Sage Evolution
· Liaising with suppliers and following up on outstanding invoices
· Reconciling supplier accounts
· Processing monthly payroll
· Preparing payment runs to suppliers and employees
· Recording of payments in Sage Evolution
· Performing bank, petty cash and inventory reconciliations
· Performing monthly stock takes
· Processing supplier, inventory and payroll journals
· Bad Debts handed over to the internal debt collector.
· Emailing information to suppliers and employees when requested
· Summarising purchase and payment information for financial reporting
· Maintaining financial records (filing)
· Attending to ad hoc requests from Finance Officer

Job Requirements:
The applicant must have a post-matric qualification in accounting or bookkeeping or an equivalent diploma/certificate with a minimum of three years of experience working in debtors in a small to medium enterprise—preferred age between 30 and 45.
Computer literacy must include an in-depth knowledge of Excel, Sage One, Sage Evolution or Pastel Partner. Competency in VIP or Pastel payroll is crucial.
Applicants should be passionate about accounting with well-developed time management skills, be detail-oriented and analytical, delivering consistently accurate work in a highly organised way. The successful candidate must have excellent communication skills and have an ability to engage sensitively with parents, exercising discretion and respecting confidentiality at all times.
