The Southern African Steel and Engineering Industries Federation (SEIFSA) invites suitable applicants for the scholarship program for 2021.

The Southern African Steel and Engineering Industries Federation (SEIFSA) supports and promotes the development of qualified human capital relevant to the steel and engineering industry. SEIFSA awards scholarships every year to students who are pursuing a career related to the steel and engineering sector. Financial assistance is awarded to qualified full-time students registered in approved undergraduate engineering programs at the University of South Africa or students studying towards a National Diploma in Engineering at the University of Technology (UoT).

The SEIFSA scholarship is only for students taking full-time courses in one of the courses mentioned above, it is paid per year and is awarded in the first instance only for a period of one year.

Contractual commitments

Upon successful completion of studies, scholarship recipients are expected to undertake holiday work in companies relevant to the steel and engineering sectors in South Africa for a period of time equivalent to the duration of the scholarship awarded. Students must inform SEIFSA each year of confirmation of employment.

The experiential learning for the student will be organized by SEIFSA.

Failure to comply with the terms and conditions of the SEIFSA scholarship, withdrawal from the course, misconduct in terms of the institution’s rules, unsatisfactory academic performance, and failure to inform SEIFSA about other sources of funding received will lead to termination. of the scholarship.

In the event that the student does not comply with the terms and conditions of the scholarship and / or withdraws from the course of study and / or obtains financial assistance from some other place without notifying SEIFSA, the scholarship will be canceled.

REQUIREMENTS

Scholarships will be made available for the development of identified competencies, with special emphasis on scarce and critical competencies in the sector and transformation objectives. To be eligible for a scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Be a South African citizen

35 years or younger

Good academic results for Math and Science with a minimum average of 75% in Grade 12 / Matric

Study or be registered (accepted) to study at a recognized University or University of Technology in South Africa

Pass a standard or similar aptitude test as required by the institution.

A gross household income of more than R350,000.00, but less than R650,000.00 per year.

The individual does not receive any other additional scholarship for the costs covered by the SEIFSA scholarship;

Preference will be given to requests from the designated group, as well as to employees of SEIFSA member companies and subsidiaries.

Relevance of the course to the Metals and Engineering industry and areas that fill the gaps in terms of scarce and critical skills

PROFITS

The SEIFSA scholarship will only cover the cost of tuition.

Students are responsible for all other study costs (accommodation, meals, office supplies, books, etc.)

REQUIREMENTS

Passport-size photograph

Proof of registration of the institution.

A certified copy of the matrix results.

An up-to-date certified transcript of your latest academic results from the institution.

Certified copy of your Identity Document.

Testimony from your employer / school or person in authority

A motivation letter of no more than one page that emphatically describes the reason for the choice of career / field of study and the expected contribution to be made.

For students entering the second / third / fourth year of study, a summary of the previous year’s results must be submitted.

Applicant’s medical statement if deemed necessary or required for the corresponding field of study.
