Prepare Lathes for Operation
Before starting the manufacturing process, the lathe operators
Prepare machines to process raw materials.
To prepare the machines, lathe operators adjust specific settings, such as height and width.

Prepare materials for fabrication
Lathe operators prepare raw materials for the manufacture of parts.
This includes making sure the materials used are the correct size.

Lathe operators examine drawings and part drawings to make sure the correct materials are being used.
Operate the lathe
Once the machine and materials have been prepared for manufacturing, the lathe operators operate the lathe and other machines safely and efficiently. They are responsible for the correct operation of the machine so that the parts are manufactured correctly.

Perform a quality check on finished parts
Lathe operators perform quality control inspections on all parts and components they manufacture.

This includes comparing finished parts to blueprints and other plans.

If parts do not meet quality standards, lathe operators usually need to re-manufacture them.
Supervise routine maintenance
Lathe operators are responsible for the maintenance of all lathes and other industrial machines that they operate.
This includes monitoring the performance of the lathe to make sure it is working properly.
If the lathe operator finds a problem with his machines, he is responsible for scheduling maintenance.

Lathe Operator Skills and Qualifications

Lathe operators work well under pressure and obsessively understand and follow safety rules when working with industrial machinery.

REQUIREMENTS

Grade 12 or matric

2 to 3 years of experience
