Psychology Graduate needed for role as Classroom Assistant at Autism Specialist Academy in the Northwold/Randburg area. Must have a desire to teach and work with children on the autism spectrum within a classroom environment.
Hours: 7h30 – 14h30 Monday to Friday
Terms: 4 school terms per year

Training provided
– Ideal candidate will have a degree in Psychology or Early Childhood Development qualification
– Minimum qualification Matric with proof of current studies will also be considered
– South African applications will take preference but candidates with valid work permits will also be considered
– Candidate must have a keen interest in working with children with learning and language challenges that are between the ages of 2 and 7 years
– Candidates must be passionate, patient, diligent, fast thinking, hardworking, mature for their age
– Computer literacy is essential
– English is essential
– Candidates with some child-related working experience will take preference but experience is non-essential as this is an entry level position
Duties will include:
– Working with children on the autism spectrum in a group setting of 4:1 ratio
– Daily play-based therapy / learning activity implementation
– Help children become independent through the implementation of therapies and academic based curriculum
– Helping children with day to day activities which include toilet training, feeding, dressing and skills for daily living
– Helping to maintain a well-run, clean and tidy classroom
– Assisting during functions and parties
– On-the-job training in a variety of activities such as lesson planning, behaviour intervention, autism specific teaching techniques, first aid, sign language, AAC communication implementation etc
